Course Aims
The multifaceted nature of cultural heritage as an economic, cultural, and social resource has been widely recognized by governments and researchers worldwide, as evidenced by the increasing weight of heritage preservation on public policy-making agendas in many countries. This interdisciplinary course has two primary objectives: first, to scrutinize current and emerging global trends in cultural heritage management and to examine different approaches to heritage preservation with a specific emphasis on Asia; second, to apply theoretical and conceptual knowledge of digital heritage. Using digital tools, such as cameras, scanners and computer programmes in archiving documents and collecting and storing cultural materials has been a rising trend in heritage preservation. Students will examine different cases of digital heritage and digital archive projects. Expert collaborators will be invited to offer guest lectures and workshops on curating and designing virtual archives and exhibitions where possible.
